The Parable of the Sower…or What Am I Growing in This Dirt, Anyway????

Often it seems our lives are going along happily, or at least somewhat peacefully, and then a rock or two is thrown into our soil. How are we supposed to grow “good fruit” when the rocks or drought or vermin attack us? We will consider how our circumstances can change and alter our feelings of closeness to our Savior and explore His nature and His unchanging love and grace.

Jody Van Drimmelen

Workshop Synopsis:

We all face disappointments, ongoing trials and often feel like we are never going to reach our desired destination! We sometimes feel like the little band on Gilligan's Island who thought we were going for a three hour pleasure cruise only to discover we have been marooned on a distant island that has no escape! This interactive workshop will help you to explore how to have faith while navigating the life you never envisioned.

About Jody Van Drimmelen

Jody is a Child and Family Therapist with a private practice in Arlington, Texas. She is a native Texan born in Oak Cliff hospital in Dallas during the time of poodle skirts and car hops. She was baptized in Austin, Texas in September of 1970, when Austin was a part of the San Antonio Texas Stake and only had one ward. Someone told her she was of the pioneers of the church in Austin… but she thinks that might just have been a nice way to say she is old!

She has served in too many positions to list, but the ones she would take back in a minute are Seminary teacher, Institute teacher and nursery leader. Where else can you take off your shoes, play with the blocks, have a snack and rock a baby to sleep as a calling?

While serving in the church, she has learned the value of prayer, praise and being prepared! She is often asked to speak for conferences, firesides and workshops. Some of her favorite classes have been, Fearlessly Flirting: The patience to charm rather than overpower, Hold My Hand- Hold my heart: Expectations and Realities of Healthy Relationships, When Life Gives you Lemons. She loves helping others and is always looking for the next fun service project and most recently helped to put together backpacks for the Arlington Back to School Round up!

She LOVES to cook and plan parties so much that she sometimes plans a party just so she can try out a new recipie. She often brings her newest creations to the Arlngton Potluck/fireside Sundays… and has a LONG list of recipies she wants to try… but just needs an excuse! A wonderful day is one where she gets to putz around in the kitchen cooking whatever strikes her fancy.

When all the children flew the nest, she returned to school to complete a lifelong goal of a college degree and liked it so much she went on to get a Masters in Social Work. Her goal was to become a Child and Family Therapist so she could reach out and help those struggling with personal and family issues.

She was married for 32 years before her husband received a new calling on the other side of the veil, leaving her to navigate the world as a single adult. Since his death she has completed her schooling, received a Masters in Social Work, opened her own practice, and is currently writing a book!
